POPIA and your rights

The Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA) sets out how organisations in South Africa may process personal information. This page summarises what that means at The Draft Clinic. Our full privacy policy has the detail.

Our commitments, in brief

1. We collect only what we need. A name, an email address and your level of study are enough to send a guide. We do not ask for more.
2. We tell you why. Each form says exactly what the information is used for.
3. Marketing is opt-in. Getting a free guide never signs you up for anything else unless you tick a separate, un-ticked box. Every marketing email has a one-click unsubscribe link.
4. Children are protected. Learners under 18 need a parent or guardian’s agreement.
5. We tell you where your data goes. Our database is in the United Kingdom, a country with data-protection law comparable to POPIA. Every provider we use is listed in our privacy policy.
6. We keep a record of your consent, including the wording you agreed to, so we can prove it and honour a withdrawal.

Making a request

Email the Information Officer with:

• your name and the email address you used with us;
• what you would like (a copy of your information, a correction, deletion, or to stop marketing).

We respond within 30 days. Requests are free unless they are manifestly excessive.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You may also complain to the Information Regulator: inforegulator.org.za.
